Saturday: We woke Carter up super early (6:00) Saturday morning in hopes that
she would sleep on our way down to Folly Beach, in Charleston. While we were packing up the last minute things and loading the car, Carter was so sleepy. To keep an eye on her, I stuck her in my "papoose" and tried to keep her awake. The Jeep was fully loaded and we left around 9 o’clock in the morning. (And when I say fully loaded, I mean fully loaded! There was just a tad bit of space for me to squeeze into in case I had to jump in the backseat.)
It wasn't five minutes after pulling out of the driveway, when Carter fell asleep. She slept a little over half the trip! We were about forty minutes away from the beach house when she woke up. She was such a trooper the rest of the way there; never once did she cry! Normally, I ride in the backseat to entertain her, but since she was well rested and happy, I rode in the front seat. I enjoyed getting to see the pretty views on the way there.

We got to the house a few minutes before Gee, Papa, and Squeaky arrived. We took a family picture as we waited in the car for them to get to the house.
We spent the rest of the afternoon unpacking and resting.
Carter had her first Bowen’s Island Restaurant experience. She slept in her
carrier while everyone stood in line to order. A little bit later, she woke up
and sat at the table with us in her Bumbo chair. Mommy fed her pear sauce,
peaches, and beans for dinner. She enjoyed being able to see everybody and everything that
was going on. After we ate, we went to Wal-Mart to get some things for the week,
then went back to the house and Carter went to bed.
SUNDAY The next morning Carter woke up early (6:20) and we snuggled
in bed with her until 7:00 and then went down stairs for breakfast. Squeaky
woke up and joined us outside on the porch, overlooking the marsh.
We snuggled on the couch and had some playtime.
Carter was all smiles!!! And so was Mommy...I had my first cup of coffee
in over 3 and a half years!
As we sat around discussing our plans for the day it started
to thunder and lightning. We quickly
decided that today was not going to be a good beach day so we opted to go
outlet shopping instead. While everyone started to get ready, Squeaky worked on
her computer and Carter took a nap in her arms. She was sleeping soundly, all
while holding on to Squeaky’s shirt with a tight grip.
Carter was a good little shopper and rode around in her
stroller until it was nap time. Squeaky got her to fall asleep and she held her for
over an hour! (Her arms were sore the next day!) Carter was nothing but smiles
on the way home. She rode in the second row of “the bus” and Papa sat beside
her.
We had Kim’s Chicken recipe for dinner with fresh peaches
and corn on the cob. Carter had her first taste of jarred baby food and she
loved it! It was Earth’s Best Organic Apples and Blueberries. Yummy! (This was her first and only canned baby food all week.)
For some odd reason, Carter did not want to go to bed. She must have been afraid of missing out on something fun. At 9:30, we finally put her in bed with Gee. They snuggled for a few minutes and soon enough she fell asleep. Daddy picked her up and went to put her in her bed, but she woke up. We had no other option but to put her in the bed between us. She was wide awake and full of smiles! Finally after we had all settled down she was able to sleep and daddy put her in her bed.

MONDAY The second morning, Carter woke up at 5:45. She hasn’t been
getting up this early all summer and then we go on vacation and she wakes up
early two mornings in a row?!?! She must be excited to be at the beach! Around
7:15 we went downstairs and snuck into Squeaky’s room. Carter woke her up with
kisses and snuggles. Again, we went out on the screened in porch and discussed
our plans for the day while Papa and Gee slept in.
It was a pretty morning. We got up and went to the beach.
Carter wore her new hot pink swimsuit with poka-dotted cover up. (It had a cute
flamingo on the shoulder.) We were packed and ready for the beach.
We couldn't all fit on the golf cart with all of our stuff for the beach so we went in two loads. Casey James dropped Papa and Squeaky off to set up the tent on the beach. Then he came back and picked up mommy, Carter and Gee.
I was walking around holding Carter in my arms and we walked up to Gee and I said, "Boo!" She looked at me and said, "Casey, she is asleep!" Sure enough she had fallen asleep sitting up in my arms...that had never happened before! She must have been tired from these early mornings. I put her under the tent and she took a nap on the beach. When she woke up she was all smiles.
It started to thunder and the lifeguard called everyone out
of the ocean so we decided we would pack up and head home before the storm hit. We packed up our stuff and Daddy brought us back in two loads again. Carter wanted to give mommy kisses as we sat on the back of the golf cart!
Once back, we took showers and rested while the storm passed. Of course, Carter got some playtime in there too!
Then later in the afternoon we went riding in the golf cart around the island. We checked out a few of the beach entrances and the small island park.
Carter and Daddy walked out to the sand to take a look around.
We had so much fun riding around on the golf cart with Carter. She loved to sit between us in the front and look around as we drove down the street. I'm sure she wished we could ride in a golf cart instead of having to be buckled in a rear facing car seat. When we got back she even fussed as we got off the golf cart - it was like she didn't want to get off!

Carter decided to be funny and give me a wet, sloppy, open mouth kiss on the side of my cheek. Totally unexpected; you can tell by the look on my face! But she made up for it by smiling for a cute picture of the two of us!

Tuesday
We woke up about 6:30 and managed to make it out to the
beach before it 7:00. Carter drank her bottle while riding to the beach. We got
there and the sun was starting to peek through the clouds. There was hardly
anyone on the beach this early. We put Carter down in the sand and she just sat
there, unsure of what to do. Then she started to move her hands around in the
sand. A few waves pushed the water up to where she was sitting, not sure what to think about getting wet. She was then covered in wet sand and was
squeezing it between her fingers and toes.
We got back to the house and loaded up the whole family to go get breakfast at Dunkin Donuts. Carter got to taste her first donut. First, she licked the donut then Mommy smooshed a tiny pinch between her fingers and Carter loved it! She got a few nibbles of a blueberry munchkin. She even tried to eat the box!

We stopped at Wal-Mart to get a couple things and then made
our way back home. Carter sat on the kitchen counter and helped us unload the
bags. (She loved playing with the jar of peanut butter!) She and Gee would roll it across the counter and Carter kept picking it up then trying to push it back to her. It was the cutest thing!
The house that we are staying at has beautiful hardwood
floors but with Carter rolling and crawling around she needed more padding.
Good thing we brought daddy’s old mattress pad and a sheet for her to play on.
It provides the right amount of cushion for Carter to play and roll around on.
Later, we dropped Squeaky off at the beach to lay out and we went to go checkout the lighthouse. We rode out to the end of the island on the golf cart and before we made it very far, Carter fell asleep sitting up. Once we made it to light house park, Carter woke up and we carried her to quarter of a mile to the light house.
We had a fun afternoon riding around on the island. When we returned back to the house, Gee had made us lunch and we relaxed the rest of the day.
WEDNESDAY Wednesday started at 3:30am. Carter woke up and was fussing
in her pack-n-play. We quickly got her up and checked her diaper. As we changed
her wet diaper she was anything but fussy. (All smiles to be exact.) She only
ate 4 out of her 5 bottles the day before so Daddy went downstairs to make one
hoping it would help her get back to sleep. She drank her bottle in our bed and
snuggled between us and fell back asleep. Around 5:30 daddy put her back in her
bed.
Our morning started again around her usual time, just before
7am. Carter was awake and ready to start her day. We came down stairs and
played on the floor and drank her bottle. It wasn’t long before Carter started
to make her ‘tired noise’ and the three of us went back to bed for a nap. Daddy
so graciously even let mommy get in an extra 45 min nap after they got up.
Carter seemed a little more tired and fussier than normal.
Gee asked if we had checked to see if her tooth had broke through and we had
almost forgotten about it. Sure enough, we pulled her little lip down and there
it was peeking through her gum. We could see and feel the little very sharp
white corner of her first tooth! We first noticed that her bottom gums were
puffy this past Thursday, but it was taking forever for the first tooth to break
through. No wonder she was having a hard time sleeping last night!
I can’t believe our little baby girl is growing so fast. First, she was rolling over; then, she was eating baby food, most recently, crawling…and now getting teeth. Time needs to slow down; mommy isn’t ready for all this! Not to mention, when she stands up how tall she looks!!! Squeaky has got her making a high pitch "squeak/squeal" noise now and she will copy her noise. They went back and forth making this noise and it was so funny.
It was overcast all morning, so we didn’t miss too much at the beach. Carter took another long nap after she got some Motrin (first time over-the-counter taking medicine) and Baby Orajel for her new tooth. Then we went shopping again!

(Notice all the poka-dots?!?!)

Mommy put Carter in her ‘papoose’ we shopped for nearly
three hours. Carter was such a good girl. We came back home and it was time for
Carter to go to bed. She was exhausted. Fingers crossed she would sleep through
the night!
Thursday We were hoping she would get a good night’s sleep but Carter
was up at 5:00am. It was early for mommy and daddy, Carter drank a bottle and
we all went back to bed until she woke up at 8:00. It was overcast and still
wet from last night, but we got up and got dressed and went to the beach.
Squeaky was our photographer and Papa came to help out too. The beach was
starting to fill with walkers, runners, and bicyclers.
We enjoyed our last full day of vacation by taking golf cart rides, playing with Carter, and packing up all of our stuff. We enjoyed our week at the beach...it sure did fly by. We had fun but were looking forward to coming home and getting back in our routine...hopefully Carter would get back on her regular night-time sleeping schedule.
Friday morning we woke up to Carter crying at 4:30 in the morning. We put her in our bed and laid there until we had to get up at 7. She wiggled, cried, and crawled all while we tried to go back to sleep but it was impossible. While we cleaned our bedroom and bathroom, mommy wore Carter in her "papoose". Daddy packed up the Jeep. Once again, it was packed to the brim. He advised me on not opening the tailgate for fear of stuff falling out.
I was trying to keep Carter from napping but it wasn't working. She was so tired for the lack of sleep she had gotten the last few nights. I was literally bouncing and dancing trying to keep her awake. Her head kept leaning forward and she was nodding off to sleep while we were all laughing at her. At this point we decided that it would be best if we went ahead and left since she couldn't stay awake any longer. She slept the entire way home.
Here are a few bonus pictures that I found on my phone:
