Thirteen Months

Little Carter-Bug, you and your little personality continue to grow and amaze us. You are starting to transform into a toddler right before our eyes. You are starting to let go to take a couple steps here and there (usually ending with a face plant). We clap and say "Yay!" after almost every try. You are so proud of yourself that you will clap and squeal too! It's so funny to watch you get excited about walking.

You continue to love to eat (and you love anything that is on mommy and daddy's plate). Some days you will drink a little milk, but you scarf down watered down apple juice (from the steamed apples mommy makes you). You are reaching for your cup now and haven't needed a bottle since the big switch. Although, one night, while mommy was out, your daddy gave you a bottle of formula because you were having a rough night. Mommy wasn't too happy when she found out, but he said you gobbled it up.

Your front top left tooth is puffy like it wants to break through. That will be tooth number five. Your hair has grown this month and your little curls at the nape of your neck are curly some days and wavy the next. No matter what kind of hair day your are having you tend to always have a curl above your right ear. And you always wear a matching bow.

You're still wearing 12 months clothes and size three diapers. We can tell you are getting taller. Your head used to easily fit under the kitchen table when you were under it. Now part of your head is above the kitchen table when you hold on and walk around it. (You have even bumped it a couple times.) You can reach a lot more these days so we have to be very careful with what we sit around you. Still you aren't really interested in climbing anything or the stairs.

While January has been a cold month, we have had some warmer days. But we've kept inside a lot and you have become quite attached to mommy. You sometimes will get in this mood where you don't want to be held nor do you don't wanna be put down...and you just cry. It's pitiful but also painful to watch and happens whether I'm in the room or just returning home. Let's just blame it on the fact that you're teething and hope it is a phase. We just have to remember that 'this to shall pass. Thankfully, you are still taking three 1-hour naps a day.

It's crazy how fast you are picking up on everyday things. Mommy can remember when you were about six months old and how we thought it was so helpful when you would push your arm through your sleeve when getting dressed. Well just this month, you've started helping pull your shirt over your head and when lying on your back, you hold your feet and legs up, for a sock to be up on or to put your pants on. It's little things like this that makes mommy realize how fast you are growing and how it won't be long before you start to prefer to help pick out your clothes!

If we could bottle you up and save this stage that you are in, we would. You are so adventurous, fun loving, and happy. The littlest things make you cackle and your laugh makes everyone in the room smile. We always find ourselves asking, could you get any cuter? Somehow, you always manage to do so each month! We love you, little Carter-Bug!
