Carter woke up this morning not knowing what was in store. It had snowed about 2-3 inches last night after she had gone to bed so when she woke up and saw all the white stuff on the ground she didn't know what to think! Daddy brought her downstairs to look out the sliding glass doors in the kitchen. Carter pointed outside and was full "-ehhhhh"s and other sounds.
After eating her breakfast, we layered her up to go play in the 25 degree weather. Carter didn't seem to mind wearing her coat, sweat pants (They look like 'high waters' in the picture, but it was just the way she is sitting; I promise.), hat, and mittens. However, when it came time to put her snowsuit on over all these layers, she was less than pleased. Mommy put chapstick on her lips for the first time, in hopes of them not getting too dry. Carter was still and didn't even try to eat the chapstick as I had anticipated.
It was bright and cold outside. Carter could hardly hold her eyes open until we put her sunglasses on her. The house and yard was covered in snow but the driveway and sidewalks were more water and ice. We met our neighbors out in the culdesac and walked to another neighbor's house who has a hilly driveway. Kids (and some parents) were using sleds, laundry baskets, and boogie boards to slide down the driveway. Carter watched from a far but didn't seem to be too interested in all the goings on of the other kids. Instead, she noticed almost every kid and adult wearing a hat. For some reason, she still gets upset when people have things such as hats or toboggans on their heads. She finally warmed up to the idea and was calm enough to hang out for a little while but we just couldn't get too close.
Needless to say, it didn't take but a couple seconds until she was wanting to be picked up. Daddy showed her how to make a snowball and she didn't cry when we he tossed it at her. We threw some snow up in the air and she would watch it but didn't seemed too phased or intrigued by all the white stuff.
After watching all the entertainment, we decided we better get back home and defrost our pink little noses. We took one quick family picture before coming inside to get warm. Carter was happy to be back home. She was pointing to the front door, like she was ready to go inside.
Our day went as usual: nap, lunch, then play, and nap again. After Carter's second nap, it had warmed up to a cool 30 degrees so we bundled up and went back outside to play. This time we stayed in the back yard. We were thinking, maybe since Carter had had a little experience with the snow and a good nap, she would warm up to the idea of actually playing in the snow. But we were wrong. She barely could even stand sitting on the snow, much less it touching her mittens.Needless to say, it didn't take but a couple seconds until she was wanting to be picked up. Daddy showed her how to make a snowball and she didn't cry when we he tossed it at her. Papa taught Carter how to ride, while being pulled in a laundry basket inside their house on the carpet so Daddy thought he would recreate the ride in the snow. Carter just sat there as daddy pulled her around, unamused, and by the end, slightly annoyed. This is not the same response her Papa gets from her...It must have something to do with the difference in temperature and layers of clothing required today.
We got a quick picture before going back inside of our little family of three!
We laughed as Carter ate carrot slices as a snack; we were joking around saying that she was eating Frosty the Snowman's nose! Of course she had no clue what mommy and daddy were talking about but we sure got a good laugh out of it!
Overall, we had a fun and lazy snow day. We thoroughly enjoyed having daddy home from work to experience Carter's first snow as a family!
