She has become more independent over the past month. She can entertain herself in her play area of our den for long periods of time and is happy to explore around the house. We spend a lot of our time down stairs and she is constantly crawling around the den and the kitchen. One of her favorite things to do in the kitchen is to crawl from mat to mat and feel the different textures of our two tone/texture kitchen mats. She has become interested in looking through the window of the oven and standing over the open dish washer. She continues to use the blue bumbo seat on the kitchen counter to eat and watch me cook. She enjoys watching me cook her baby food and munching on cheerios, black beans, or a celery stick.
As Carter grows so does her appetite. Not only does she love to eat but it seems like she enjoys all types of food. She still enjoys her fruits but she has found a new love for green vegetables! One of her favorite recipes is: a carrot, pieces of a green bell pepper, half a pear, some zucchini, and a few handfuls of spinach and kale; steamed and blended well. She will gobble this combination right up and if she wants more, she will let you know! It's amazing at how much she wants to eat and usually she wants more vegetables which is fine by us! She continues to drink 5 and a half ounces of her organic formula about every three to four hours along with eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner (veggies and fruit). She no longer takes her medicine to keep things moving...we attribute that to her love for her morning yogurt and all the fiber she is consuming.
In the mornings, Carter is consistently waking up around 7:30. She will sit up and rub Lamby for little while, lay her head back down, and then stand up, look around her room and start babbling. She stays calm for about 30 mins and then we go in to get her. When we walk downstairs she is eager to get her bottle (as is mommy to make her coffee). After drinking her bottle, she will play and eventually a little later she will crawl into the kitchen and make the "ehh" sound and reach with her arm to the counter for the rest of her breakfast. (Throughout the day, this is how she will let us know she is hungry or wants a snack. She sure knows food is kept in the kitchen!) She has two ounces of yogurt every morning and she absolutely loves it! One morning we had run out and had not made it to the store the day before to restock and she was not a happy camper about missing her yogurt. We have only made that mistake once and hopefully it won't happen again! (Notice the picture with Carter smiling with a mouth full of Cheerios...food is definitely the way to this girl's heart! Not to mention she is arm deep in the can of puff snacks!)She continues to repetedly say "da-da", "daaaa", and every once in a while say "pa" or "papa" but she hasn't said "mama" in a while...and mommy misses it! Poor Aunt Squeaky thinks it will take her forever to learn to say "Squeaky" so she has tried to teach Carter to call her "LaLa" but I think we will be sticking with Squeaky even if she can't say it until she is ten...sorry Squeaks!
Speaking of Squeaky, she has taught Carter to squeal and it is the funniest thing to hear them go back and forth squealing and laughing!
Naptime has previously been more here and there for Carter. Her pediatrician says since she sleeps so well during the night, if she doesn't sleep much during the day then it is okay. Carter had finally started to get in the routine of the timing of her three daily naps but all of a sudden one day I heard this banging and look on the monitor to realize she was banging her head on her crib. Were talking multiple times and hard enough to bruise! Mommy ran in to get her out of the crib but she did it again the next nap time. It was a rough day, no naps, and multiple bruises on her forehead (spaced exactly the width between each slat). Bruises on our precious little girl were not cute so we had to find a way to put an end to it. She continued to do this at nap time but didn't headbang at night. She had figured out that if she would bang her head then we would come in to get her out even if she had not taken her nap yet for fear of her hurting herself. So the soft sides of the pack-n-play was the answer. She went through a couple weeks of napping in the pack-n-play and she would still head bang but couldn't hurt herself because of the mesh sides and plush rails.
She still likes her activity tables but she has found a new love for her shaped blocks. She is constantly putting them in and taking them out of the bucket. She chews on them, throws them down, crawls with them, passes them from hand to hand. They are like her new best friend. We even had to take a bath with them one day. She prefers to play with the shape sorter lid on its own rather than use it on the top (probably because she doesn't sort the shapes yet and because it is more fun to play peek-a-boo with!)

It seems like each month I take a picture of her little feet. This month I couldn't help but notice that she had weaseled her toes into the square hole of the top of her shape sorter. (It wasn't stuck, she easily got it out on her own.)
Those little feet are beginning to take lots of steps with the help of mom and daddy's hands. She hasn't let go yet to take her first steps but she is definitely working on her stamina. She loves to scale down the couch with the cutest little side steps, leaving slobber marks where she open mouth kisses the couch. Daddy thinks it's funny; mommy, not so much. Carter loves to pull her self up on anything that she can reach. When sitting in the recliner, she will pull up to the standing position and give you the biggest grin right before she falls down from turning the chair. So far she has become a tough little cookie. She will fall down and either get right back up or continue playing on the floor. Rarely does she cry unless she has bumped her head.
Just like when she was little, Carter hates to have her diaper changed or have to change clothes. Really, she hates being put on her back...why would you want to be put on your back when you can be on your knees or feet having fun? Changing diapers we can deal with, if you give her a toy or book she can manage. But changing her clothes, rarely ever happens without tears. She has been able to push her arms through her shirt sleeves but now she can help push her legs through her pants so getting dressed is becoming a little faster; even though it continues to be loud. (For some weird and disgusting reason Carter likes to chew on her socks...gross!)
Exhibit A: She hates laying on her back now more than ever! Even giving her Cheerios this is the best we could get:
Carter enjoys riding in the car. She sits up so high in her carseat so she can see everything out the back windows. On occasion she gets fussy and we tell her to put her paci in her mouth. Give her a second, she will find it and put it in her mouth! She has learned that when I unbuckle her chest buckle, if she brings her arms together, out from the arm straps, it makes it quicker and easier to get her out of her seat. She normally is interested to she where she is when we get out of the car.
Her hair continues to grow in and it looks like she is getting some curls in the back!
Notice how almost every picture she has a block in her hand (or close by)? She will play with them for long periods of time!
She still only has two bottom teeth but she drools constantly! Haven't noticed any puffiness on her top gums yet but I'm sure it won't be long!

After we finished taking pictures, Carter crawled in the bathroom and stood up to look in the tub like she was ready for a bath. She loves to look in the tub no matter if it is bath time or not!
