1st Trip to Riverbanks Zoo

After Carter took a quick morning nap, we loaded up and headed to the zoo. Clearly, she was excited to be going to the zoo for the first time! All smiles!
We made a quick stop for lunch at Andy's Deli and made it to Riverbanks Zoo by 11:30.
Carter was dressed for her first trip to the zoo. She wore jean shorts, a yellow onesie along with her monogrammed lion bib and matching lion shoes...and of course a red bow!
The zoo keeper let us feel kangaroo fur and it was very soft.
Carter and daddy after going through the walkabout. We brought the stroller to hold all of Carter's stuff, but with so many of the exhibits being higher than what she could see riding in the stroller; we ended up carrying her a good bit. In between exhibits we would stick her in the stroller but she enjoyed being held and seeing all the sights.
She enjoyed the big elephants but boy did they stink!
Next was the giraffes! Mommy had been looking forward to seeing them up close and being able to feed them!
Their tongues are soooo long and slimy but it was so much fun having them eat out of your hand!
Carter wasn't sure what to think about such big animals being so close. She didn't stick her hand out to touch but she stared at the giraffes up close and far away. Wonder if she thought they looked like Sophie?
We later went to the barn. Carter enjoyed seeing the cow. We got down low and watched it eat and occasionally it would look at us.

Next, we rode the train. Daddy wasn't too keen on riding so he watched and took pictures. Mommy and Carter rode in the blue and peacock feather train car.
Carter wanted to see out almost the whole time. She also waved to the little boys in the car behind us.
She also waved to daddy as we went by him.
After riding the train, Carter was all smiles!
Once she was back in her stroller, she and daddy continued to watch the train.
Strolling around the zoo! Of course she had to wave!
Of course we had to get a picture with the tiger! This is probably my favorite picture from the whole trip!
Later we went inside the bird exhibit. We held little cups of nectar out and the birds would come and drink from the cup. Carter stared at the birds while they drank and when they flew around she followed them with her eyes and would turn her head side to side to watch them fly.

We stopped in to see the koalas sleeping.
Next, Daddy rode with Carter on her first carousal ride. She was slow to warm up to the ride at the beginning. If you look closely at the first picture it actually looks like she is holding on for dear life but after a few times around she was sitting up and holding on to the ride.
After they got off we stuck Carter back in her stroller. She was still in awe of the carousal. She sat there just staring at it go round and round.
So mommy and Carter hopped back on for another ride! This time we rode the peacock! She watched herself go around and around in the mirror.
After that we went to the aquarium. Carter loved watching the fish (and shark) swim around. We even got to watch someone clean the tank!
It was as if Carter was trying to touch what was behind the glass.

By far her favorite was the penguins! We stood watching the penguins swim past us for a long time. She would squeal as they swam by.

It was a great day to be at the zoo! There wasn't many other people there so we got to sit and watch for as long as we wanted.
There were two gorillas out. One sat with his back up against the glass and the other one sat in the shade facing us. Carter didn't pay them much attention as she did the other people that were in there ewwwing and ahhhing over the huge animals. It's crazy to think that there is just glass between you and this huge animal!
We went back to see if the lions were out and they were! Had to get a picture with Carter wearing her lion bib infront of the lions!

We made it back to the entrance of the zoo and took a few pictures with the lion cub.
Before leaving we took a break and sat down to look over our pictures.
A lady that worked at the zoo walked by and offered to take our picture.
After a quick diaper change and a repositioning of her bow, Carter was all smiles after her visit to the zoo!
Getting in the car seat to go home...and still all smiles and waving to daddy!
Overall we had a wonderful trip to the zoo!  We stayed three hours and the weather was perfect (sunny and cool). The best part was that there weren't many other people there either. Carter definitely enjoyed the trip. She never once made a whimper nor did we have to use the pacifier! We had a great experience at Riverbanks Zoo and look forward to more trips in the future!
