Two Months

Two Months already?!?!? If time keeps flying by at this pace, two years will be here before we know it!

We were looking back at pictures of when Carter was born and comparing them to now; Oh my, how you have changed! We thought you were the cutest thing the day you were born. You were so calm and had the cutest dimples after you would yawn. We were smitten over you. You could do no wrong. Now, two months later, we ask how could you get any cuter? You have the biggest blue eyes (which are getting lighter), you constantly hold on to our fingers, you love to stare at us, and our most favorite thing is when you give that big toothless smile. Each day you get even cuter and our love grows for you more and more.

You think the funniest thing is when we are changing your blowout diapers. Normally you hate to be changed. When we take your clothes off you usually fuss, cry, or scream but not when it's the really stinky...you give us the biggest smiles, you are so relaxed and you just grin back at us like, 'ha ha, you have to clean up my mess.' It is quite possibly one of the funniest things. Good thing you do this because it distracts us from the monster of a mess we have to clean up. We end up smiling and laughing with you. You sure do know how to turn messy situations into moments that we will remember forever!

Just the other day, you were sitting in your daddy's lap while he was on the computer. I was coming up the stairs and caught an ear of one of his conversations with you. (The background on the computer is the one from your one month chalkboard pictures.) I hear him say, "Look, at that cute little girl on the computer." Then I hear you make some noises. Noises that sound like you are about to get upset. Your daddy quickly comforted you and said, "Hey, hey, don't worry, that is you! You are that cute little girl." My heart then melted!

You continue to be a good nighttime sleeper. The morning of your two month birthday, we woke up to a huge surprise! You slept through the night! A whole 10 hours! There were four nights in a row where you slept 8 to 10 hour without waking up for a nighttime feeding. I will admit, the first time this happened, I woke up to check on you because we weren't used to you sleeping for so long! Your morning nap unusually lasts until 10 or 11am but your daytime naps are hit or miss. Some days you will fall asleep easily and others you prefer to stay awake to be with mommy and daddy. You prefer to be swaddled and rocked as you fall asleep but some nights we have put you in your crib when you're sleepy and you drift off to sleep on your own.

We have tickled you all over trying to find your tickle spots. We thought surely, we would find you to be ticklishness on the bottom of your feet when we painted them for your valentines. You just smiled and watched happily. But Gee has found your one true tickle spot. It is on the middle of your back. When we run our fingers down your back, you uncontrollably arch your back and wiggle. It is so funny!

You are getting stronger everyday. You love to try and hold your head up on your own. Tummy Time used to be one of your least favorite things but now you enjoy it much more using the Boppy. You will hold your head up for a few seconds then take a break and try it again. You also will practice when we put you over our shoulder. You love to walk around like this and look out the windows in our house. Sometimes we look at each other in the mirror like this and you just stare at yourself.

When being held, you have started reaching for our shirts and hold on with a firm grip. If you get the chance, your favorites are shirts with pockets on the chest. You stick a few fingers in the pocket and hold on tight. We are amazed at your strong grip. You have already grabbed my necklace a few times. I am dreading the day you find my long hair. I can only imagine how much fun that will be for the both of us.

Your hair is starting to grow in and has been a recent topic of conversation. At birth, your hair was dark and thickest around the base of your neck. Now your hair is getting lighter and little baby hairs are coming in at your forehead. In the sunlight your hair looks more blonde, like mommy's but sometimes inside it has a reddish tint. You have a pretty complexion but when you get upset your face easily turns pink, reminding us of a redhead. When I was pregnant and had such bad heart burn, your Gee Gee always joked that you were going to have a head full of red hair.  Guess we will have to wait and see.

You have so many different facial expressions. Grammie says sometimes its hard to believe you are the same little girl because you can look so different in almost every picture. Your eyebrows and forehead remind us of your Papa. You definitely have the Bookout nose and we've even caught you scrunching it up. We can't tell who's eyes or mouth you have, but you definitely have your daddy's long legs and long fingers.

We often wondered what you are thinking but recently we find ourselves guessing at what you are trying to say. You start opening your mouth, moving your lips, and wiggling your tongue and every once in a while you make sounds like you are talking to us. Aunt Squeaky recently asked the question, "I wonder what her voice will sound like?" This got me thinking...Who will you sound like? Who's personality will you take after? And what will your distinctive personality traits be? I keep wishing time would slow down, but if it must keep up its current pace, I am looking forward to watching all that the future holds for you!

We love you, Carter!

First trip to Target
On the way to the doctor for her two month check-up
Your check up really went well. Dr. Smith said you looked happy and healthy. You got one oral vaccine and you didn't really know what to think of the taste of it. You also got two shots, one in each leg. Your nurse administered the first shot and you gave one loud cry and then you were fine. You received the second shot in the other leg and gave another loud cry. After that you quickly calmed down, got dressed, and went back into your car seat. You slept in the car and continued to sleep for a few hours after getting home. Your next check up will be when you are four months old!
