We had our gender ultrasound on Friday, August 8 at 10:00 am. Mommy drank her morning coffee on the way to the appointment, with the intention of the caffeine making baby kick and move a lot during the ultrasound. As mommy and daddy calmly waited in the waiting room, there wasn't much of a doubt that we were having another little girl. Our reasoning was based on the fact that mommy had felt the same with this pregnancy as she did with Carter and it was just our intuition. We hadn't 100% decided on a girl name, but we had our favorite and mommy already had girly nursery ideas and was ready to start decorating.
Soon into our appointment we saw that this little baby had ideas of it's own. In what looked to be the most uncomfortable position ever, our little baby rested as still as could be with it's ankles crossed and looked as though it didn't intend on moving positions for any reason. The sweet ultrasound tech had mommy moving around, laying on her side, and gently shaking mommy's belly to get the right angle. While she was trying to make our little baby change positions, she said that with her experience, 90% of the time when the baby has it's legs crossed and doesn't seem to want to uncross them, it's a girl. That just confirmed our suspicions of this baby being a girl. The heartbeat was 146 beats a minute which was the exact same as Carter's for one of her ultrasounds (don't remember how many weeks along she was). That also lead us to believe that it was a girl.
When the tech got the baby in the position needed, she told us to look away (two different times) so that she could determine the gender and take the baby's picture. Afterwards, we waited out in the waiting room while she printed the pictures and wrote boy or girl in an envelope and stapled it shut. Then we had a quick visit with the doctor and we were on our way to drop of the envelop at the same bakery that made our wedding cake and now second gender reveal cake.
Fast forward to Saturday and it was time to cut the cake. Daddy cut the cake as mommy and Carter stood across from him waiting for the first sign of pink icing. Next thing we knew, we were seeing BLUE! Surprise, Surprise! It's a BOY! Both mommy and daddy were in shock! Totally not what we had anticipated but what a surprise!
Right after cutting the cake, Papa asked, "Where's the envelope?" Mommy had to open the ultrasound pictures just to make sure the bakery got it right. Sure enough, our little baby is a boy!
Carter is going to be a big sister to a little baby brother!
