Three Weeks Old

This week was a change of pace for all three of us. Daddy went back to work on Monday which meant mommy and Carter got lots of one-on-one time together. We definitely missed having daddy at home but overall, we had a good first week and have started to get into a routine of what will be our new normal.

Weight: 9lbs 3oz  (on our scale) *same as last week
Clothing: Newborn onesies fit best, newborn and 3 months pants, newborn and 3 months gowns and pjs
Eating: about 2oz every 3 hours throughout the day (Daddy sometimes slips her a little extra!) and 2.5 oz. at night
Sleeping: Daytime naps and Midnight-6am; still sleeping really well
Diaper Size: Newborn

Carter's belly is continuing to grow! The funniest thing is to compare the width of her round little belly to the tiny newborn diaper she wears. It bulges out the sides and is the cutest thing! 
her belly looks so big in comparison to her little body, but you only notice the size difference when she is naked. She still has her umbilical stump. Hopefully it will fall off sometime within the next week. Will she have an inny or an outtie bellybutton? Guess we will just have to wait and see! 

Carter is getting into a good nighttime feeding routine. When she wakes, she usually stares around the room while she is being changed. She eats and then goes back to sleep pretty easily.

We still have not come to an agreement on who she looks like...Daddy thinks I have his eyes but mommy hasn't decided yet. Mommy still thinks that her nose looks like hers and her forehead and eyebrows remind her of Bookie's.

Carter has become much more alert and is staying awake for longer period of time. Her eyes are still dark blue with a little bit of gray around her pupils. She is focusing on close objects but still prefers not to be in direct light (or she will squint or close her eyes completely). We know her vision isn't fully developed yet but we often wonder what she is thinking when she is staring at things so closely.

Her grip is getting stronger each day. She now will grab the skin on her chest (see the three week picture) and she will pull out her pacifier when it is in her mouth.

She is continuing to sleep swaddled in her Nap Nanny at night. As soon as you take the swaddle off, her hands fly up and she starts stretching.  When she stretches, she yawns and will show off her super cute dimples. She has started squirming and wiggling around more. Sometimes she takes her naps in the pack-n-play that we keep downstairs. When in it, she sleeps best lounging on her Boppy.
 

It's mid-January and the weather has been in the mid to upper 70's - record setting highs! Perfect to try out the new stroller. Carter went on her first walk around the neighborhood. She started out awake but just a few minutes into it, she fell asleep. We walked from 3:30 to 5:15 with one of the neighbors and never heard a peep out of her! The neighborhood hills take on a whole new level of difficulty pushing a stroller. Since then, mommy and daddy have taken her on more walks...It's definitely easier to share the responsibility of pushing the stroller!
